Amplify the Healing Benefits with the “Entourage Effect”

The term “entourage effect” describes the synergistic manner in which natural compounds work together to produce therapeutic benefits. Synergy means the interaction of elements that when combined produce a total effect that is greater than the sum of the individual elements. When we combine certain compounds in their natural state, we end up with an effect that is greater than the sum of each part. The different compounds can amplify each other’s chemistry, making the combined product more effective in healing..

When the separate chemical compounds present in cannabis, for example, stand alone, they aren’t nearly as effective as when combined together. This teamwork is greater than the sum of all the individual parts, hence the term “entourage”, which means a group of people surrounding and supporting another main individual.

The Entourage Effects on Your Endocannabinoid System are Enhanced by Palmitoylethanolamide (PEA, an Endocannabinoid) and the Endocrine System produced Steroid Hormone known better as Vitamin D3.
PEA and D3 have been shown, through scientific studies, to produce, in scientific terms an “entourage effect, increasing receptors affinity to enhance endogenous anandamide activity and/or reducing enzymatic anandamide degradation”. In simpler terms, PEA and D3 Enhance the Effects of each other, and of CBD.

What Exactly Is CBD?

  • An Exogenous Cannabinoid. (Comes from outside the body)
  • A Phyto-Cannabinoid. (Comes from Hemp or Cannabis plants)
  • Works on Receptors in your body’s EndoCannabinoid System (ECS)
  • Promotes Balance and Homeostasis of your ECS
  • Promotes soothing, relaxing effects without producing a "high."
  • Natural and Safe

CBD is short for cannabidiol, a natural ingredient derived from the hemp plant. CBD is an exogenous Phyto-cannabinoid. It comes from outside of the body but mimics some of the actions of endocannabinoids, indirectly working on various receptors In your body.

Introducing exogenous cannabinoids to your body’s ECS with CBD may enhance the body’s own processes. CBD doesn’t bind to CB1 and CB2 receptors. However, it does alter the way that certain neurotransmitters communicate with those receptors, exerting its effects indirectly. CBD is thought to boost the function of your cannabinoid receptors to produce soothing, relaxing effects without producing a "high."

CBD is natural and safe, is not known to produce any significant negative side-effects, and it contains no addictive properties. It has no known psychoactive properties, and is believed to not cause adverse reactions, drug interactions, nor impair users in any way. Many people choose CBD to help manage their pain, while others supplement daily with healthy CBD to maintain and promote their general well-being, mood and stress levels.

What is Full Spectrum CBD?

“Cannabis is inherently polypharmaceutical,” Dr. John McPartland notes, “and synergy arises from interactions between its multiple components.”
Full Spectrum CBD oil, unlike CBD isolate products, includes a wide range of cannabinoids present in the cannabis or hemp plant. There are over 100 ‘identified’ compounds in the cannabis plant. Full spectrum CBD also contains a variety of essential vitamins, minerals, fatty acids, protein, chlorophyll, terpenes, flavonoids, and fiber.
While most of these compounds have their own therapeutic benefit, they combine synergistically to magnify and provide far better performance than any single compound alone, and that includes CBD. This interactive synergy between cannabis compounds has been coined the “entourage effect.” The different compounds can amplify each other’s chemistry, making the overall plant more effective.

What is PEA?

  • An Endogenous or Endo-“Cannabinoid” (Comes from Inside Your body)
  • Natural fatty acid amide produced by our own bodies (“Endocannabinoid Family”’)
  • Produced locally in all our tissues in response to stress, pain and inflammation
  • Works indirectly on Receptors in your body’s Endocannabinoid System
  • Promotes Balance and Homeostasis of your ECS
  • Works on a receptor in your body related to chronic pain and inflammation.
  • Has been shown to have anti-inflammatory, anti-nociceptive, neuroprotective, and anticonvulsant properties.
  • Natural and Safe
  • Enhances synergistic Entourage effect of CBD and other Endo- and Phyto- Cannabinoids.
Research has shown that “PEA directly activates CB2-like receptor or potentiates endo- cannabinoid actions” (click for details).”
PEA is an endogenous Natural fatty acid amide produced by our own bodies (“Endocannabinoid Family”’). Also known as an “autocoid” it is produced locally in all our tissues in response to stress, pain and inflammation. It directly or indirectly works on various receptors and pathways In your body. PEA utilizes the endocannabinoid system, affecting several different nuclear receptors, either by binding to them directly, or through “entourage effect”. PEA plays a major role in reducing chronic pain and excessive inflammation, but also in regulating immune response and feeding. A great advantage of PEA is that it does not mask the pain, but it actually works to remove its source.
Unlike CBD, PEA is structurally related to anandamide and may co-enhance its effects as well as inhibit FAAH, which degrades anandamide. PEA also helps stimulate the production of endocannabinoids in the body’s endocannabinoid system. Although biogenetically and chemically different, CBD and PEA share a remarkable series of pharmacological similarities. For example, PEA counteracts endotoxin-induced inflammation in cells in the same cell lineage as CBD. CBD and PEA also share a number of centrally mediated effects which include neuroprotection and reduction of seizure activity.

What is Vitamin D3?

Vitamin D3 is actually an Endocrine System produced Steroid Hormone. It was unfortunately mislabeled when originally discovered. The word “vitamin” generally applies to substances that our body can’t make, but need, so we must get vitamins from exogenous sources. Vitamin D3 is instead, an endogenous hormone that we make naturally in our skin from exposure to the sun's UVB rays. It is the most ancient hormone, and important to the function and balance of other hormones such as estrogen or testosterone. It is called "The Sunshine Vitamin", but more accurately would be called "The Sunshine Hormone".

Picture
Vitamin D receptors are present in virtually every tissue and cell in your body, and adequate Vitamin D level is essential for optimal balance, homeostasis, and functioning of these tissues and cells. The vitamin D receptor is present in nerve cells called nociceptors, which sense pain. This means that more vitamin D impacts the level or feeling of pain experienced.  While best known for roles in maintaining bone health and the immune system, below is a list of some of the other Vitamin D functions.

  • Inflammation – Vitamin D activates receptors that signal inflammation reduction.
  • Cell differentiation – Vitamin D regulates the proliferation and specialization of cells.
  • Cognition – Vitamin D helps maintain cognitive function and is importance of brain health.
  • Immune system – Vitamin D plays a role in antimicrobial response by disrupting bacterial cell membranes.
  • Autoimmune function – Vitamin D inhibits B cell proliferation and differentiation, preventing antigens from maturing so tolerance to self is maintained
  • Cancer – More than 200 epidemiological studies link Vitamin D deficiency to breast and other forms of cancer
  • Infection – Vitamin D produces 200 anti-microbial peptides, including a naturally occurring broad spectrum antibiotic
  • Gene activity – Vitamin D regulates 3,000 of our 24,000 genes

What is the Entourage Effect?

The term “entourage effect” describes the synergistic manner in which natural compounds work together to produce therapeutic benefits. When we combine certain compounds in their natural state, we don’t end up with the sum of each part; instead, we get a multiplying effect. The different compounds can amplify each other’s chemistry, making the combined product more effective in addressing health issues.

As it relates specifically to the ECS, PEA and Vitamin D3 have been shown to produce an “entourage effect, increasing receptors affinity to enhance endogenous anandamide activity and/or reducing enzymatic anandamide degradation”
